MICHAEL COONEY’S SLATE ELECTED BY TWO-TO-ONE MARGIN
AS NEW DIRECTORS OF NEMI NORTHERN ENERGY AND MINING;
MICHAEL COONEY APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD
VANCOUVER, CANADA – March 30, 2009 – Shareholders of NEMI Northern Energy & Mining (TSX:NNE.A) voted 2-to-1 to elect Concerned Shareholder Michael Cooney and his slate of nominees as NEMI’s new board of directors at the company’s annual and special general meeting of shareholders held today in Vancouver.
“I am grateful and humbled by the overwhelming support given to me and my fellow nominees by NEMI’s shareholders,” Mr. Cooney said.
Proxies and persons present at the shareholder meeting in support of Mr. Cooney’s slate represented 29,464,620 shares or 67.9% of shares voting at the meeting. Management withdrew its nominees from standing for election.
NEMI’s new directors are Michael Cooney, Tony Hammond, Lyle Stein, and Todd Hooper.
Michael Cooney was appointed Chairman of the Board at the first meeting of NEMI’s new board of directors
“My fellow directors and I accept the responsibility bestowed upon us to manage the company in a prudent manner,” Mr. Cooney stated.
NEMI Northern Energy & Mining owns a 12% interest in the Peace River Coal Limited Partnership.
